Virologist Florian Krammer Joins Medical University of Vienna as Professor of Infection Medicine

World-renowned influenza immunity and vaccine development expert, Florian Krammer, Ph.D., has assumed a new role as Professor of Infection Medicine at the Medical University of Vienna. Concurrently, Dr. Krammer continues to serve as a Principal Investigator at SEM CIVIC and an investigator at the CEIRR Center for Research on Influenza Pathogenesis and Transmission (CRIPT).

Dr. Krammer’s laboratory explores broadly protective immune responses to RNA viruses, with an emphasis on influenza. By elucidating the underlying mechanisms of immunity, his team strives to develop therapeutic interventions and vaccines against viral pathogens. At Vienna, he will leverage this expertise to characterize viral pathogens and develop vaccines and therapies to combat them. In addition, his Viennese group will put emphasis on viruses with pandemic potential, such as human influenza and SARS-CoV-2.

Markus Müller, Rector of the Medical University of Vienna (MedUni Vienna), expressed delight in welcoming Florian Krammer to the institution, noting that Dr. Krammer “will make a significant contribution to research in this important area.”

Congratulations to Dr. Krammer on this remarkable achievement! Watch Dr. Florian Krammer’s introductory video for the Medical University of Vienna here.
